Name: Wendy Green

Profession: Yoga teacher, retreat owner

What does that mean, exactly? I have been teaching yoga more than 2/3’s of my life. I have been practicing/teaching ashtanga yoga specifically for 20 of those years, studying with the living master in india, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (rip). I offer exclusive cleansing raw food, yoga, hiking retreats and honeymoon retreats at my secluded lodge in the cloud forest of Ecuador.

Passion: Life, nature, hipping up the planet, creativity in all its forms.

Why? Guess I’m hard wired that way, karma?

Do you have a mantra? “This too will pass.”

Favorite health routine: Yearly retreat, ashtanga yoga most days, lots of salad, local spring water, regular time in nature, go to bed early, wake up early. Keep the house really organized. Do it all over again.

What one or few thing(s) have improved your quality of life most? Turned off my tv and gave it away in 1996. Moving out of the NJ “burbs” and into the cloud forest. Very little “device” time (no constant contact).

What matters most to you these days? Simplicity. Walking the dogs. Practicing yoga, teaching, quietude. Expressing gratitude. Growing my own food. Helping others. Being happy.

What have you learned recently that you’d like to apply to your life? The Metta Prayer - “may you be happy, may you be healthy, may you have ease of being” - saying this prayer for everybody, family/friends/foes/strangers, is a powerful tool for their peace and mine. I’m saying it now for all of you!

What do you know that you wish more people did as well? Ashtanga yoga rewires us from the inside out. When following the system entirely it’s a bonafide game-changer and consistency counts. The guru told me “one year, 5 years, 10 years, no use. whole life, that is the method”. So I’m giving it a whole life and can see for myself, it’s true. Even so, still so much more to discover and unfold.

Resources, if applicable: 1955 to present :)

What do you wish you knew more about? Organic gardening. How to self publish. Where to find reliable trustworthy people to house-sit my home in the cloud forest 3 months during rainy season while I travel. :)

Who should we profile next and what should we ask them? Pema Chodren. How do we free ourselves from old habits and fears?

The Beginning

Three years later, a look back -

AUGUST 20, 2013

My birthday present to myself this year was to be in the best shape of my life.

On January 1st, I quit drinking. Stone cold turkey cut off indefinitely end of story.

I've always eaten well and made working out a priority but this go-round was the real deal. Mission. I'm good at those.

What ensued was a coming out of sorts. While I've Googled "what is the healthiest food on the planet" about 900 times, and tend to read up on every other thing that I eat, I started documenting the process. Pausing to photograph or allowing the exploratory spend on odd herbs, new produce and also psychological health pursuits like meditation, wellness books and even a psychic awareness class. I will try just about anything once and my curiosity in the health and conscious wellness departments is insatiable.

I also gave up meat. Just to try it, and it stuck.

As the months progressed, I emerged.

In late Spring, months before my birthday, I hit my goal weight.

By the time the big day rolled around, I'd entirely exceeded my goal - looking it, feeling like and knowing that I was truly in the best shape of my life.

Today we are 90% raw vegan, a lot of pounds lighter than the original target, stronger and faster than ever, nine months sober, and just getting started.

To celebrate, I did two things:

1. I took myself on a raw, yoga retreat in Honduras.

2. I launched Erthly Dlights.

Onward.
