In astronomy, new moon is the first phase of the Moon, when it orbits closest to the Sun in the sky as seen from the Earth. More precisely, it is the instant when the Moon and the Sun have the same ecliptical longitude. The Moon is not always visible at this time except when it is seen in silhouette during a solar eclipse or illuminated by earthshine.
Achemising the New Moon Energy
The new moon is about starting with an empty clean slate. It’s the conception of an idea to become birthed into life with the coming full moon. Thousands of people for hundreds of thousands of years have moved with the ebb and flow, with the energy that is within all of the universe, including us.
For example farmers knew this, so they planned their harvests and seeding around the moon cycles. Farmers noticed through time passing that the seeds that took the best were seeded during the new moon. The new moon is also a time of seeding ideas and intentions. Theses seeded ideas will then sprout with the coming full moon just as the seed waiting in darkness to break forth into the light to bring fruit, so should you allow the gestation and creation of such idea to bring about physical results. – Source
How to Set a New Moon Intention:
- Cleanse your space (or, your whole home if that’s realistic). Use prayer, sage, palo santo or incense. At the very least, just clean up. :)
- Create a place of focus – ideally one that you can revisit throughout the month. Light a candle, bring in some crystals or objects – anything that represents or inspires focus and your intention.
- Center yourself.
- Write down your intention(s). (I suggest one. Just, one.)
- Close your eyes and visualize that intention realized. See it, feel it, will it to be real – if it’s right.
Take note of the full moon date and each day, until then, take 5 minutes (or 30 seconds) to recall and re-visualize your intention.
